A yellow lab would be fine in a 30g wouldn't it?
Not in the long term. I QT'd my 5 in my 29 gallon tank before adding them to the main 125 gallon. And believe me, 29 gallons isn't big enough for them. They are considered to be one of the more peaceful mbuna, but that's for mbuna. They are still aggressive and WILL fight eachother b/c that's what they do. African cichids require larger tanks b/c of the aggression...they need to be able to run and hide from the aggressor.

A better alternative for a 30 gallon would be some Lake Tang. species, such as shell dwellers or some julie species.

Just did a little reading, I guess you're right. I really don't know much about rift lake cichlids, and being considered "peaceful" mbuna, I assumed you could keep them in a 30g with little aggression problems.

I've been reading and researching mbuna since last nov/dec :book: I still have a lot to learn, but I always enjoy learning. :book: I set up my big 125 gallon 5 foot tank last Feb.

very very pretty fish, yes i am still kinda new to all this. My dad knows a lot about it. He has been doing this since he was in high school. So hes here to help me out . I wish i had a bigger tank though. but they get so damn $$$$$$...

So my bala sharks are getting pretty big two. Probably around 6 inches, i bought some feeder fish.. and THEY WON"T eat them.. Im pissed. i feel like im going to end up with 10 more neon tetras.. !! My bala sharks are so girly, everytime i get up they always scurry back behind me rocks or try and hide.. Little girls man haha

hope your dad realizes that bala's get about 12" long (30cm) watch for people selling their tanks. As Ski told me. Alot of people may try to sell toward the end of the month b/c they have to move. Watch and see if you can get a great deal :good:
