Not in the long term. I QT'd my 5 in my 29 gallon tank before adding them to the main 125 gallon. And believe me, 29 gallons isn't big enough for them. They are considered to be one of the more peaceful mbuna, but that's for mbuna. They are still aggressive and WILL fight eachother b/c that's what they do. African cichids require larger tanks b/c of the aggression...they need to be able to run and hide from the aggressor.A yellow lab would be fine in a 30g wouldn't it?
A better alternative for a 30 gallon would be some Lake Tang. species, such as shell dwellers or some julie species.
