I know this topic has been done to death. New tank setup 2 weeks ago, water has been cloudy since about day 2 or 3. All parameters are good. ammonia 0 and nitrite 0. Filter is brand new Aquaclear 70 with chemical, mechanical and biological filter media. What do?

Wait it out. If you're doing a fishless cycle it will go away eventually.

Also as a side note, I was thinking about adding another filter (canister) to this set up. Would this be overkill? Would probably do a fluval 305

Whether it would be overkill depends very much on what you are planning to stock.

Just as a quick query, you said your parameters are 0ppm ammonia and nitrite. Am I right in assuming you're doing what the fish shop said, and running it empty for a couple of weeks? Sorry if I'm wrong, but this advice is given so often, and it's sssoooooo wrong.

No, I have a few tetras in there to start the biological filtration. I haven't decided on the rest of my stock yet. Trying to plan it out perfectly because I want to be content with what I'm getting

tried an Aqueon clarifier just to see and it did nothing so i'm assuming bacteria bloom.

Did a 70% water change and water is still a tinge milky white, i'm definitely thinking bacteria bloom. Agree?

Just an update, on saturday I added a Fluval 305 and did a 50% water change yesterday and the cloudiness is much better. There still kind of like a little film on top but the milkyness is all but gone

yeah would have been bacterial bloom. as far as filtration goes, i don't believe you can have too much!! i have a 90l tank with a fluval u3 internal and a APS 600l/h filter. glad the cloudiness is getting better!!

just for future reference, fishless cycling is the preferred method but if you are going to do a fish in cycle, tetras are not the best fish to add in the first instance. they can be very sensitive to fluctuations in water chemistry. for 'first fish' try to go for something hardier next time like guppys or platys. yours seem to be doing fine though so well done! keep up the good work with the water changes and let us know how things are going.

Will do, thanks! Do you know of anything that would help with the kinda filmy junk on top? the HOB filter breaks some of it up but still prevelent. I feel like this film is what is leading to the tank looking clody at the top, bottom crystal clear, top seems like the light doesn't get through cuz of this stuff

take a look, let me know

note previous was a bacteria bloom i got it as well and i also got algae afterwords i did also do a fish in cycle stupidly do you have lighting? try netting the stuff out, could it be food? over feeding? i have noticed recently on my tank dust collecting on top looks wired and fish like to pec at it if it where food so i put a make shift lid ontop someone with more experience will probably tell you what it is :)

i'll try to net it, i'm pretty good about getting uneaten food out, with exception to the wafers for the pleco as i feed it before i go to bed since he's nocturnal.
