we have a 40litre tank, which we have had for about 6 months, with 12 fish. in the last 2 weeks the water has gone cloudy, tried changing 50%, then 25% daily but stayed cloudy. changed filter unit from under gravel to stuck on side type. bought chemicals supposed to reduce waste, clear water and cut down on water changes. didnt feed fish for 2 days (all this on advice from fish shop!) still no change. today have emptied tank(leaving fish in 25% original water), cleaned gravel and refilled with treated water. put fish back - water still cloudy!! Help :shout:

There are different types of bloom, best to google it then find which one you have.

Sorry not to be of more help there.

Mark.

Did you cycle your new filter? As in run in the tank for a month alongside your old filter.
no they didnt say anything about that at the shop. but the new filter was bought because tank had already gone cloudy and they said it could be that the old filter wasnt working properly

at moment only have plastic plant in tank, would real one help?

dont know a lot about fish, daughter bought tank then got fed up about a month ago so adopted them

Test for ammonia. I think what happened is when you changed filters, the old media (rocks) and the bacteria in it from the undergravel filter stopped being active when the filter was removed. A new filter takes about a month to mature on a healthy tank. So what you should have done was to run the new filter and the old filter together for a month and removed the ungergravel filter after that.

I think we may have 2 problems going on here.
