After spending ages cleaning the sand, i though it was fine, added to the tank and now the water is very cloudy.

Im concerned as my fish are in buckets at the moment with air stone and a heater. Ive read it can take a while for the silt to settle.

If i add my fish back in will it effect them? Ive used 50% tank water so the chemistry should be fine, Just dont wanna cause the fish any harm

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

fine to put fish back in, it will clear in a day or so. :good:

Ive put the fish back in but cant tell if they are ok or not i cant see them!!!

Is filtration a good idea? Just seems to stir the silt up even worse

Ive put a cloth over the outlet of my filter to try and catch the smaller particles, how long does it normally take to clear.

Some of my fish have come to the front but ive still not seen a few of them, should they be ok?

It'll take 6 hours to clear.

Do a 10% water change. It'll help.

a pre filter, a white pad

Ah right, yeah the filter has two in one at the bottom and one at the top and i have covered the outlet with a cloth to take out the smaller particles.

Hoping it clears soon, ive seen all my fish so thats good, they dont look best pleased tho lol

when i changed to sand i left my filter on and it clogged up, sounded awful.

when your doing the water change try not to disturb any of the sand at the bottom which has already settled. (common sense you will know this lol)

Lol yeah, i was torn between the - leave it to settle approach or the leave if for a bit then turn on filters to take out the rest of the gubbins.

Seems to be clearing now i used the 2nd approach, i can finally see some of the fish, but its a bit annoying after the water used to be crystal clear!

It won't take too long and it will be chrystal clear again. My water was a little merky as someone else said about 24hrs and all fish survived. I gently hoover over the top of the sand about once every 2 weeks and have a horseface loach who does a good job in turning the sand over and keeping it clean
