I know i have to wait..but i laughed when hubby was gonna put FISH on his Christmas wish list....but yesterday i wrote it on mine
I guess i should count back from 17 hrs and see EXACTLY how long it is taking.. looks like i'll be a hermit for a few days again!

I thank you all for you paitence...i know im a moaning minnie...but i just want fish again.
BUT 1 plus is.... i can get my sand cleaned now!!! I'm still not sure about the wood though...i have it soaking in a bucket in the garage, how long does it take??? AND i didnt hear no more about if driftwood was safe to use?

Hey Minnie

My wood took a week or two between the time I started soaking it and the time it stopped leeching tannins and sunk.

Did you say you found some wood on the beach, or did I just dream that? (Or read it from someone else). If you have, you'd probably need to soak it for alot longer (with more frequent water changes so you're not just soaking it in salty, polluted water), but I have no idea how you'd know it was ready for your tank if that was the case.

I soaked my wood in a barrel outside for 5 and a half weeks. I put it into my tank 4 days ago. The water is now browny/yellow....

i found it where i work in Croyde..i did post a pic on my other thread. x it was very dry..but clean.

It's probably alright then, though you might wanna ask around if you don't know what kind of tree it came from as it might rot if you keep it in water.

As I said, my wood took a week or two to stop discolouring the water and sink, but having said that I bought it online and is intended for aquarium use, so I'm not sure how it'd go with a piece of "wild" wood. Not saying it can't be done, just that you'd need to find someone with more experience for an opinion.

You work in Croyde!

Ahhh! I'm so jealous. My uncle lives in Ifracombe so I'm up your way a couple of times a year.

My tank is still filtering. Ammonia is clearing in 24hrs and Nitrite a lot longer.

Hayz, I wasn't sure about my bogwood either - it came with the tank (bought 2nd hand) so I poured some boiling water over it to disinfect it and found that little bits were coming off when dry.

I'm pretty sure the previous owner got it from the LFS but the advice I was given was 'if you're not sure, don't risk it, not worth it' so you might want to keep that in mind too.

Unless, of course you can find out what type of wood it is and treat it properly!

That's what you get for getting Tizer involved in a thread. :hey: (And I believe I gave you my two penn'orth)

You're getting there with the tanks, keep the faith, fish soon, by the looks of it!

hard to tell what wood it is...as it was just left by a wall.
Yes Pyro i do work in Croyde..its sooo relaxing watching/listening to the waves as i work..we often stop for a cuppa and sit on the veranda and watch the surfers! ;)
i have it submerged in a bucket (with a spade holding it under the water).. it hasnt leeched any tannins at all the water was clear?? if that helps anyone?

Not a clue about the wood, sorry, but I've just remembered! Your linkS to your cycle logS on your sig aren't working... I tried to use it before so I could have a look at the wood (was gonna try to compare to the ones I have) but couldn't... can you put a picture up again?
