Clear Wavy Algae?

ok so i couldnt decide where to put this, so here it is

I have a new tank. no fish. pretty heavily planted. I just did a 40% water change 2 days ago. I added 12 trumpet snails yesterday, and dosed with 2ml of ammonia after i turned the lights out yesterday. I dont quite know why i put the ammonia in, but i did a water test a few hours later just to see how it was coping, and i had 4ppm ammonia. ok cool whatever.

my wife went into labor this morning. (we had a beautful baby girl) tonight when i got home, and turned the tank lights on (they were off all day), I see this weird clear wavy slime all over just the "red"/tan portion of my mopani wood. I find this very interesting. first, its only one the light colored wood, the black parts of the same piece are clear. also, the lights were off all day. I guess maybe the plants werent reducing that ammonia so this is a algae bloom of some sort? what can i do!? what is this stuff?!!!

WOW Congratulations!!! (and still have time to post to the forum!)

I just wanted to say that.

I believe that the stuff on the wood is sort of a common thing in new tanks and not to worry about, but I'll lets someone else that that on.

is it on the wood? and is the wood new?

if it is alot of wood gets this clear slime on it when first put into the tank..its not harmful to the fish but looks unsightly..you can manualy remove it but it will keep coming back.. after a few weeks/months it should disapear by itself

yes, only on the wood, the wood is brand new.

Thanks for calming my nerves about it! I'll just let it go away on its own then!
