Cleaning The Hosptial Tank

I have a 5 gallon tank that I set up three days because the day I bought my Twig Catfish I noticed the early stages of whitespot or ich. I medicated him yesterday for the first time with a cap full of Maracide, and I was wondering if I can clean the tank a little to get rid of the poop without messing up the medication.

What you could do is use a dedicated QT gravel cleaner (or use something like Milton sterilising fluid for 15 minutes each time you swap a single cleaner between tanks, to prevent cross contamination) to suck up your Twig's "call of nature." If you end up need to remove a significant (say 10% or more) amount of water, add a proportional amount of the medication back in with the fresh water after it has been de-chlorinated.

eg. You remove 1 gallon of water from 5 gallon tank (20%). Lets say you normally dose 10ml daily (THIS IS JUST A CONVIENIENT VALUE, I HAVE NO IDEA OF MARACIDE DOSEAGE

) . To make up for the "dilution effect" of adding fresh water, you would add 2ml of meds to the de-chlorinated fresh water.

You can use 1 part bleach to 20 parts water for cleaning equipment. Rinse well with tap water afterward, or just let it dry out.

Milton can be found in your local chemist eg. Boots, if you live in the UK. Its marketed as human baby streilising fluid for bits like feeding bottles

Ah, okay. I'll try and see if I can find it on Ebay, if not, I'll definitely try the pharmacy where I live, or even my local fish store. He may have some I can use. Thank you all very much.

The ingredients in Miltons are Sodium Hypochloride & Sodium Chloride. Sodium Hypochloride is most commonly known as bleach, Sodium Chloride is salt. Bleach is cheaper, and works better, if Miltons worked better I'd be using it.
