my fry tank isn't ready to take fry yet and the trap they are in is messier than a teenagers bedroom. Any ideas on cleaing it without subjecting the fry to stress or being eaten if they leave the trap? i got caught out and have no floating plants for them to seek refuge in.

anyone got any handy hints?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. In fishkeeping, the mess you can see is safe, it's the dirt that you can't that causes problems. So long as the slots are clear and the water can move in and out, then the ammonium can get into the filter and that's all that matters. When your fry tank is ready, then give the trap a good old clean with a brush and hot, soapy water.

Cheers,

Neale

I use a syringe to get rid of the waste on the bottom. When the sides get covered in algae i use a toothbrush. Dont use a scrubbing brush / washing up pad as it'll scratch the sides.

syringe... great idea! i have loads about. no i'm not into class a drugs, i use them to bleed brakes on my bikes. even got some unused ones so the fish don't have to swim about in hydraulic fluid, which i'm sure wouldn't be good for them.
