Cleaning Slate

I recently purchased some slate, this stuff had obviously been used as when I got home it had some bits of algae on it, another piece had a few brown spots on it and a chunkier piece was kind of goldy(?) coloured through it, I placed all pieces in a basin and added a few kettles worth of boiling water and left it over night, do you think it will be safe to use or ids there anything else I should do?

to be safe id probably leave it in boiling water to kill germs and loosen any old algae or dirt etc and then boil it again afterwards for good measures. im pretty sure boiling kills almost all germs and bacteria that could cause harm to fish.
