Cleaning Lava Rock

Hello again!

Lookin for some advice on cleaning lava rock. I'm goin to do a re-scape in 1 of my tanks and want to add some new lava rock i got but it sticks out like a sore thumb because mine is slightly, mature lookin haha.

I'v gave it a blast with a jet wash but its still pretty rough lookin

Any idea's?

That's all I can think of. I wouldn't use soap though as it might not get rinsed out and could possibly get into the tank

TBH, i was about to suggest exactly what you've already done! Jetwash is pretty much the only way to get in all the tiny holes in lava rock.

If a jetwash isnt doing it, its not going to get done!

Ah well... thanks anyway guys.

I'll just need to put the new rock in at the bottom or somthin so its not so 'sticky-outy'

Soak in 50/50 chlorine bleach and water.

What happens when all the chlorine gets stuck inside, bearing in mind its pretty much the most porus rock bar pummice? Bye bye filter.....

If your going to do that, i would soak it in dechlor for a month after!!

Think I'll just keep attackin it with the old jet wash for the time being. A did think about waterin down some bleech but no worth the risk.

I'll give it an extra long soak in the bath before jetting it, see if that makes any.difference.

You just soak for 24hrs in a solution of 2 tbls. Prime per cup of water.
