Cichlid Kind Of Waving Is It Ill?

Its a fairly big cichlid. And when its still it kind of does a mexican wave on its body and then swims like mad.


Anything wrong? Or am I just being paronoid?

Ive seen this in some of my cichlids in the past. Could be flukes, might be nothing. As long as the fish is eating well+ behaving normally most of the time dont worry.

what other fish are in the tank, doe's it aim it toward's the other fish or along side them, if alone is it erratic?
what cichlid is it?

there are 5 other cichlids, not sure of the name, and it is near to them side by side.

It sounds as though your Cichlids could be up for some lovin !! It would be helpful if you could find out the name of your Cichlids, as we would be able to advise you properly.

yep same as dog say's will be difficult to determine whats happening without knowing, ie is the any gill flaring, head to tail quivering

My dad bought them from a tank that just said "Malawi Cichlids" - I know silly, I told him.

But we are going for a trip on saturday up to the a5 where I am taking my pen and pad, as I want to make a list for my future cichlid tank.

So I will write down what cichlids he has. He is one of the big ones though (out of two) and the other one has different colours etc.

Could they still mate?

sound's to me just cichlid aggresstion, that's why people keep them malawi cichlid's in a tank with alot of other cichlid, it spread's out the agresstion between them all thus leaving picking on a indivdual much more difficult, As long as the other's are ok and no major damage or hiding you will be fine
