I was at Petsmart the other day and was looking at all the different cichlids as I just purchased a new 120 gallon. I saw a small tank labeled "Texas Cichlids" I looked inside and all of the fish looked the same. Then I saw this beautiful black and white fish swim out of this tree-trunk looking decoration. He was definately a type of cichlid and I am sorry I don't have a picture of him but he kind of looked like this as far as body-type and color goes:

Half of him was white then his other half was black and white vertical stripes. I was thinking he might have been a convict but he was in the texas cichlid tank and he was half white? I really liked him and wanted to get him as soon as my tank cycled but I didn't want to buy a fish without knowing what it was. Can anyone please help me?

Hmmm....looks like the famous Bogus maximus....of the family crapola. Cmon...a little more effort....and thats clearly what used to be a female convict.

Maybe it was a crossbreed you saw .

You did that to the picture to try and give an idea of what the fish looked like , right ?

I know that isn't the REAL picture of the fish. That is what the coloring and markings look like. I used the picture of a female convict because the fish I saw at Petsmart as the stripes and coloring of a convict, only half of it's body is pure white.

Try asking in the hybrid forum Raechel .

 You guys actually thought I would try to pass that off as the actual fish I saw?   No way. I posted above that I didn't have an actual picture of the fish, that is just what the body and coloring/markings looked like.

Thanks. I just posted it there. Hopefully I will get some more information on it. The fish seemed really curious of his surroundings and just very active.

Sorry didnt mean to misllead you or anything...just another example of my non existant humor.
Lol it is fine. It gave me a good laugh. :p Anyways, I guess I will go back to Petsmart tomorrow and ask them about it. I doubt they'll be anymore helpful than your bogus maximusm, but it won't hurt to try. ;) Anyways I should get some sleep. I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow. Goodnight.

lol i cant believe u thot she was serious with that pic digital_run

coulda just been an odd convict

if it's body was half white and half grey with black stripes and it was at petsmart then I'd bet $10 it was a texas cichlid. B)
