Cichlid Breeding Troubles

I am new to fish forums but not new to the the fish keeping hobby despite my young age. I have a cichlid tanks, one has male and female pairs of 3 types of cichlids. One of said pairs is a jewel cichlid pair. I have been trying to breed them and I am not sure why they haven't, I'm pretty sure there male and female they are the same size one has almost no colorful while the other belongs on the cover of aquarium international. The cichlids both share the same cave in the same territory and they have for over 1 and a half years. There are also 2 auratus (I apologize for my spelling)and the yellow female has been becoming brownish in color, any ideas?

I am no expert, but I have kept Cichlids before and never had trouble getting them to breed!

I do know that they need to have perfect water conditions and a good healthy diet before they will be interested in breeding.

With your Auratus, the females are usually brighter in colour and if there are no males, one of the females can change colour to look like one and will act more dominant like a male would.

I don't know what to do about your breeding woes, but I have to ask. What kind of Cichlids do you have your Jewels with? My jewel hates everyone but synodontis catfish.

My Jewel pair is housed with Krib and the auratus, there were problems at first but all the fish now get along.
