After some bad luck with an external filter will a decent INTERNAL filter do as good a job.? My EX1200 when working was fantastic and i hardly ever had to clean the tank or the glass...will a good internal filter (or 2) be as good....all advice welcome!!

Well, if its for the 240L tank in your sig then you're gonna need more than one. Most internal filters are sized for 10-20 gallon tanks. I know of one or two that go up to 40 but nothing big enough to handle a 63 gallon tank all by its lonesome.

Thats kinda what i was thinking, i might just have to stick 2 or 3 at the back to maintain it...i just will never be able to trust the externals again,,,!!! Unless someone can reccomend a foolproof one!

what was the problem with the external? for larger tanks people do generally run external cannisters, the tetratec are one of the cheaper brands on the market, compromise on prioce will always give some compromise on quality. If money is no issue then get a top of the range eheim which you are highly unlikely to ever have problems with. However any manufacturing process has flaws, in any product you can get the odd duff piece of equipment so you have to accept some degree of risk, but with something like an Eheim the risk is fairly minimal.

If the problem is with a canister filter I'd got to a hang on back before I went to an internal. My Penguin 300 does a hell of a job even though its five years old and a single HOB large enough to handle your tank will be cheaper than a swarm of internals.

I had a tetratec ex1200 which did a fine job until it start leaking slowly at night and flooding my kitchen...i really cant afford for that to happen again so i was going to go the easy root of getting a tetratec IN1000 Plus...?

how long did you have it for? sounds like the seal's gone, £5 and 5 minute job to change it, they don't last forever and will need replacing from time to time.

like any machinery filters take a little maintenance.

I did all the maintenance, but the leak wasnt coming from where the seal was, it was seeping out for places that it shouldnt have been coming from.? I removed media and had always kept it clean. Tetratec just confirmed this morning that it was a faulty one so not my fault.?

fair enough, as i said before it's always possible to just geta faulty piece of kit.

i wouldn't be put off externals by one bad experience though, spend the money you would spend on multiple internals on getting an Eheim . They're reknowned for being super reliable, build quality is excellent compared to some of the cheaper filters.

Your choiuce but that's what I'd do.
