+1

I want to hear anyone's experience with these too. I saw them in my LFS today and they look really nice. Also want to know what other fish you all are keeping them with.

Thanks in advance!

This is a species I would also love to keep, but sadly don't have the resources available to look after them properly. These are very delicate and need top-notch water quality and preferably a species only, blackwater tank, or at least a tank with equally peaceful fish. I certainly wouldn't keep them with dwarf gouramis.

I'm not saying they'd be impossible to keep in a community setup (I think carlovel has some in his), but unless you have pristine and stable water conditions and a constant live food supply then expect high mortality.

Chocolate Gourami's are simply stunning fish i used to have 2 and i did keep them with discus, but as bigtom the water quality has to be perfect i managed to keep mine for atleast 3-4 months but over time they stopped eating and passed on im not sure as to why they stopped eating i had a wide selection of different food which i gave its a mystery but they are realy nice fish to have, i hope you have more sucess than i did

I'd say no. Dwarfs are pretty aggressive and are even more aggressive with other Gourami. Chocolates must be kept with very peaceful tankmates, otherwise they will quite happily allow themselves to get bullied.

In short, no. There are usually 2 reasons as to why they very commonly die.
1: They are very picky about water conditions (soft, low pH, warm water needed). They may sometimes adapt to your water conditions but often they don't and die.

2: Infections & diseases. I originally had 5 Chocs, out of those 3 died over the space of a few months. (now back up to 6 and havent't lost anymore since the original 3) These gourami are extremely prone to all bacteria and diseases. 2 of mine died from internal bacteria, the other from ich. I now have a whole draw of medications, most of which for my Chocs and do water changes every 5 days, instead of 7. Every now and then, they catch something new. They are quite challenging I must say. Plus their main diet still consists of live food which is a bit of a pain

I had my Chocs in a community tank to start of with (I wasn't originally planning on keeping them), but since they came with various diseases, needed slightly different conditions and were an unexpected addition, I soon moved them them to a spare tank, where they live some Boraras brigittae.
