Anyone own one? I've got a 10 year old Male, literally the cheapest costing pet who is living the longest. Got him for 99 cents (U.S.)
 
Nope i havent kept them personally,
But we've had them in at work, where ive had to looking after them.

Fascinating little critter's arnt they :)
For 10 years! your's has had a great life!
most of the customer's ive talked to who have
own'd them, their's usually live about 5-11 years.
So your doing great :D
 
i have an 11 year old one but i'm not sure if he's chinese or japanese.

i've read that the differance is the shape of the tail.one is rounded,the other is pointed.i don't remember which is which.and to me his tail looks half rounded and half pointed so i'm not sure which one he is.i'm very fond of him and i make sure whatever fish i keep won't harm him.

To sex I look at the underside (the cloaca). Males have larger ones, females are much smaller. Females usually have larger bodies.

do those guys need to be able to get out of the water? they are really interesting looking and now you got me thinking about getting one....
 
hmmmm i think im going to have to look into this more. I think that would be neat for a community aquarium.
 
i have a fake floating rock that sticks to the side of the tank with suction cups.
