hi all
I'm currently converting my 22G to a set up for a female Chilean rose tarantula,
which I have purchased but yet to bring home. If anyone has experience with this entry
level spider that can give me some do's and more importantly some don'ts I'd very much appreciate it.

I've been researching them for a while and think I have pretty much covered everything, but there is nothing
like personal experience to help a newbie.

oh and name suggestions are welcomed :good:

Nice one Wolf - I've always fancied a tarantula :)

I'd go with something a little odd name wise... Dave springs to mind :)

Get some pics up :)

I dont keep Ts, but I know that you have made a good choise buying a female instead of a male. Make sure everything is tightly tied down, both the lid and the decorations, a big T can easily push over objects and end up hurting itself.

Hi, My boyfriend has a chilean rose that I've "pet sitted" for long term (she lived with me for over a year). She's pretty cool, but I'll warn you, she barely ever moves. I've noticed that she eats less in the winter, in the summer though, she was eating ~10 crickets every other week or so. Also, they molt about once every year or so. I didn't know that and I thought she was dead when it happened while I had her. They are supposed to have a shallow dish of water at all times. Sometimes she gets in it, but usually the crickets use it more than her. Also, when he first got her, he had a heat pad for her on the bottom of the tank (outside), but most of the time he didn't have it plugged in so he ditched it and she doesn't seem bothered by it. It depends upon how warm it is inside I suppose.

Probably the best thing about having her around is holding her when guests visit. Lots of people will freak out at first, but later want to hold her. She's a very cool, low-maintenance pet (especially compared to fish!) Enjoy and be sure to put up some pics for us when you get her!

I've had my female for 5 years, if you just keep the terrarium humid they will eat loads.Whatever you do if you see it lying on its back looking dead do not touch it because its shedding its skin and 1 touch could bruise or even kill it.

thanks for the info all. :)

I'm liking two names so far
Palla which is Incan for princess &
Levanta which is Spanish for rose
