Children Feeding Fish

Yeah but it's all worth it when they look up and say 'I love you daddy!'

Hmmm...and just wait until they are a teenager and they hate you. Maybe remembering how bad of a kid I was is why I'm perfectly happy without one.

I don't let anyone feed my fish, except on vacations, and I'm still nervous. I hope your fish turn out okay! You should show him the amount that's safe for him so he learns how much is okay. That may help.

I bet you any money you kid phobics will have a kid one day, it's just a matter of time :). But yes, they are much harder to train and look after than pets. Still, if you think you love you're pets, wait until you have a kid.

I detested kids with a passion until my eldest came along and now 3 isn't enough, all the magic that comes with them is heart warming and it changes you as a person. When I was in the army I saw unspeakable things that didn't even make my eyes blink, now I can't watch finding nemo without crying, As for fishkeeping, my boys will spend ages watching the fish instead of the TV, the baby is mesmorised by the angels, which aren't really ours we are just keeping them until they are big enough to go with my mums angels but I am tempted to get my own or say I can't catch them.

sorry about your fish being over fed hopefully they'll be ok, unlike my friends fish when her little brother poured mouthwash in there!!
I'm sure they'll come out of hiding when the stress is over

xXx

Heh, I'm not a "kid phobic"...most of my psychology studies in college revolved around child development, education, and social development. I am however a member of VHEMT, which means that I have made the conscious decision to never produce another human being, and I have lost two very serious (discussing marriage) relationships because of it. It's a choice based on moral principle, not fear of the inconveniences of child rearing. I will gladly adopt if I ever get married, I enjoy spending time with my friends kids, and am currently saving up to take them to Disney World. I also enjoy taking trips with them to the pet shop and teaching them about different animals and fish.

Well, total casualties, two neons, and they'd been looking ill for a while. The water quality can't be too bad as the water change yesterday has triggered my cory's to spawn, again!

What is it with neons, they're meant to be some of the hardiest fish, yet i always seem to be loosing them. I don't think it's neon tetra disease, but it's funny how most are suffering with some ailment or another, mainly cloudy eye, one appears to have gone blind in one eye. Perhaps it's stress?

This morning i let him feed the fish under supervision with an amount of food that i measured out. He seemed to enjoy doing that, hopefully i can encourage his enthusiasm rather than stifle it by keeping him away from the fish. I also reinforced that the small amount of food we fed them will do them all day!

Thanks for all your responses, this has turned into a really interesting thread. Maybe if there's enough good ideas i could compile it into a thread suitable for pinning on children and fishkeeping.

My girls kept feeding my fish (they're 11 & 8 ) so I bought them their own coldwater tank which they have in their room. They look after them fantastically and the eldest knows to clean the filter in the old water. She does water changes each saturday too! She's just bought herself another fish (just a Black Moor) and another plant out of her pocket money!! B) Trouble is she4 now wants a heater so she can keep tropicals.....I currently thinking about it!

It's the curse your parents place on you when they get mad. Remember hearing "Just wait till you have kids of your own " and my favorite "I hope your kids are just like you."

Just curious; how many of you with young kids that age actually have the tank equipment connected to a GFCI? I would be more worried about that than the fish in the tank...

I don't but my ring main's got a breaker on it, as has the supply to my house, so there is protection there if needs be.
