Hello,

Just resurrected fishkeeping as a hobby after a break since teenage.

I put some cherry barbs into the tank the other day (1 male, 2 females) and have noticed some odd behaviour. They swim head-on into the fiercest part of the jet emanating from the (just submerged) spray bar before exiting the jet only to repeat this. A number of times over and over again. Not unlike salmon heading upstream into a weir to spawn.

They look like they are either 'having fun' or exercising.

Anyone else seen this?

I wouldn't be worried. If they are new it is quite common for them to mess around in the currents.

When I had young cherry barbs they went mental in the bubble curtain all day and then when I removed that and got an EX-1200 they were always in the outlet. After a week or so they just stopped doing it

my cherry barbs sometimes play in the current, its quite funny to watch

Sorry to hijak but phoenixgsd what is your tank stocking. Noticed you have cherry barbs and khulis like me.

Currently my tank is stocked as follows:
6 Cherry Barb
6 Rosy Tetra
6 Khuli loaches
4 Armano Shrimp
1 Pitbull Pleco

I have aquired all mine for free apart from the khulis
7 khulis
1 swordtail
3 corys
4 cherry barbs
1 flying fox
2 glass fish
and 5 amanos

I looked in to swordtails as well. Looked like a well sorted fish for my stocking.

Have heard missed things about flying foxes. Is yours aggressive at all?
