Cheaper Liquid Carbon Source!

Thanks for clarifying the AE dosing.
The site instructions are correct (5ml per 50l), it is a new batch so that is why the picture is incorrect.

Although going by your earlier calculations, now changed for the new dosing, doesn't this make AE's 'Homebrew' more expensive than using EasyCarbo?

Based on 100L Tank:

AE, 500ml = £8 (2ml per 50l for heavily planted)

4ml daily
500/ 4 = 125days (6.4p per day)

Easylife EasyCarbo, 500ml = £11 (1ml per 25l for heavily planted)

4ml daily
500/ 4 = 125days (8.8p per day)

Now;

AE, 500ml = £8 (5ml per 50l for heavily planted)

10ml daily
500/ 10 = 50 days (16p per day)

Easylife EasyCarbo, 500ml = £11 (1ml per 25l for heavily planted)

4ml daily
500/ 4 = 125days (8.8p per day)

Seems like EasyCarbo is then around half the price of the AE Liquid Carbon?

yes, but it is atill 20% stronger. so you can dose less. This will be a maximum dose, similar to seachem excel where a "one dose suits all" kind of thing.

Thank you aaron for the numpties explanation, after Ive read it a few more times Im sure it will make sense :D

Will give it a shot, be prepared for more ?'s though :D

Hi Aaron, not doubting you for a second, but where do you get the strength information from? I mean we can go by the dosing on the bottles, but how do you know what strength the AE Carbon Liquid, Seachem Excel, and Easy Life Easycarbo actually are?

Thanks :)

Just to try not scaring anyone here, once you use this stuff, make a batch and dose, it's really simple.
Do not let the chem and all that bug you. It's not complex or hard.

You just need to add a bit of this and that, as long as you know what they are, can use a teaspoon set, or a small scale, it pays for itself many times over really fast.
You can later make whatever custom blend you prefer etc.

I was really hesitant initially, I mixed up KNO3 and K2SO4.......I had the same fears everyone has.
We all did.

But it's not much different than baking cookies and using the chemical names for baking soda: add 5mls of of teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate(baking soda) to the flour, mix etc.
Feed one cookie a day to the kids to keep them happy and for bribing.

Becomes really simple and sort of boring afterward.

Folks get weird and put off by chem names and ppm's and all that.
Do not let it bother you, and remember when you help someone else later on.

Tom Barr
