Hi' guys

My Channa are still not breeding:( i've had them since around feb, i have 7 in a tank that they share only with a bristlenose plec. The tanks a decent size and well coverd with fake plants. I tend to change the water monthly or every couple of months sometimes so i dont bother them to much. They all look fully grown to me but i see no agression still. Occasioanlly a little splash of water but thats rare. There is like a cave thingy incase they needed to get away from the others.

I was hoping to have bred them and moved onto something else in the tank by now.

Ideas anyone?

Hi mate.
They won't breed untill you have a pair formed.
Getting a pair is not as simple as putting boys and girls together. Even though you have 7, It may be you have 7 boys or 7 girls.
And even if you have say 4 boys 3 females, doesn't mean YOU WILL get a pair. They simply might not like each other. Water parameters also are a consideration.
Give it time, be patient. If you see a pair forming, keep an eye on them. If they really do pair up, they will quickly attack possibly kill anything else in the tank, so be prepaired.

Took a while for my Channa Bleheri to pair up and breed.

agreed fully, its a case of enjoy them first then when and if a pair forms then enjoy the breeding, shame you have itchy feet as to how long you want the breeding project to last,What is your water temp?and ph?

It's not that i dont enjoy them , just thought they would of bred by now , i will check the temp and ph when i get in if i get time.

Channa are not a normal fish where bunging a male and female together = babies at some point, these particular fish will at some point form a very strong pair, only at this point will you even stand a chance of breeding :)

I;ve been thinking same bout mine had them about 18 months, once had eggs in a males mouth I think but thats it nothing in 6 months or so!!!

but I now have babies in my tank, no idea when eggs were hatched I have had suspicions they had eggs for about a week and a bit
