Changing Tank From Cold To Tropical

I have two tanks that I'm thinking about swapping around. One is coldwater and one is a tropical setup.

What do I need to do to make the swap?

I was planning on swapping the gravel and ornaments over in each but was hoping to leave the filters in place within each tank. This ok?

The both seems like well established tanks... Remove the heater from the one and place it in the other... Then place the tropicals over to their new environment when their receptical tank temp exceeds their current enivironment.... Nothing else required...

Really!?

I always took it that colwater fish ie. goldfish were much dirtier and that their tank would need a massive cleanout first.
