Black ghost knifes are the only ones I've seen round brisbane so I cant really comment otherwise but as the tank will be at least a 5 footer it shouldn't be problem (I hope)

What kind of knife fish are you looking into?
African knife fish grow to about 12inchs but 8 is more common, clown knife fish grow to about 18inchs(but 3ft in the wild) while ghost knifes grow to about 16 to 20inchs- it all depends realy on what size tank you are going for.
