I currently have a jewel lido 120 with the internal compact h jewel filter and I want to remove the filter and upgrade to a silent external as filter head has had to be replaced twice in 12 months and I really don't think the filter flow rate is up to much.
what are the best externals on the market at the moment for around the 100-150 mark? So far I have been looking at the jbl e series filters.
The tank is heavily planted out and stocked with 2 bn plecos and 12 small tetras and a betta.

I have a juwel Rio 180 that on the advice of many here I bought a Tetratec ex1200. It is an amazingly good filter and silence is louder than when it's running. Think mine was 98 delivered.

Thanks for your reply, have you had any problems with it leaking?

iv just bought a used fx5 its a fluval and amazingly good and easy to maintain :D

How did you remove the internal if i may ask?

FX5 on a 120 liter tank is a bit much haha!!! It would be a whirlpool. I hear good things about the APS filters - I used to like the Renas externals but that was a few years ago and heard of a few issues now. Fluvals other than the FX5 IMO has a bad reputation for leaking... and then if you can splash out the Ehiems are a pretty fantastic and always a good option.

Has anyone had experiences with jbl filters?

Nope mine is bone dry. I think they did have a slight leak problem, but they updated the pipes and valves in the filter head and no problems since. As long as you buy a new one or a second hand one that's no more than 1 year old you'd definitely be ok

I have finally took the pludge and bought an aquamanta efx1000 after see my friends up and running in comparsion to a couple of other brands.
Before i remove the Jewel filter will i need a powerhead/wavemaker or will i get enough water movment from external filter?

I have the JBL CristalProfi e901, fantastic filter, very quiet and its very easy to get parts for if anything goes wrong (I cant find anything for sale in this country for the one you've gone for), pads and media last for years, simply rinse them in tank water when they become dirty, at £90 its one of the best investment ever.

Bare in mind you will need to run the new filter alongside your old one for a bit so good bacteria can form in it.

Thanks for the info aquamanta filters are made by madianhead aquatics and they stock all parts and media, plus the filter comes with years guarantee.
So will I need a powerhead to help with water movement or an external filter be enough?

A déjà vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix. It happens when they change something.

Mine moves the water plenty, I think yours is more powerful than mine so you shouldn't need anything else. Position the outtake hose just below the water surface and you should be good to go.

And mine has 4 years guarantee
