Hi guys..

just wanted to ask opinions on "re-scaping" a tank, best to do it with the fish in or out?. Reason i'm asking is i'm not happy with the substrat (currently white gravel..not nice when it goes a dirty brown). Was thinking of a layer of sand for the guys but its a large tank (200ltr) and i dont want to stress the fish if at all possible.

any idea's?

Skosh...

i removed the fish when i changed substrate

i put them in a bucket and put the heater and filter in the bucket so i knew the fish were safe in there, ammonia wouldn't spike and the temp would stay stable
i also saved as much water as possible in another bucket

when i filled the tank back up, i got the temp in the tank back as close as possible and then put the fish back in and topped up the tank slowly

another way would be to just bag up the fish when you're done and readapt them if you can't save most o fthe water, especially in a large tank.

I just stuck mine in a bucket, there in there right now. I just put sand in. Will they be fine in a heated room in the bucket for 4-5 hours? I can't see a centimetre through my tank because the sand made it so foggy.
