Change Of Mind

Don't worry, I have a STRONG disliking of Neon Tetras. When I was a newbie and was starting my first aquarium I bought them, and really really didn't like them. Then I was stuck with them for the duration of their lives. Oh the mistakes of a newbie.

I think I'm going to stick to Lemon tetras. I went to my lfs yesterday to check them out and I still like them! haha :good:

I don't mean to be repetitive, but any opinions on what would be compatible with my rainbow shark in a 29 gallon?

Do we not need to be concerned about the Chinese Algae Eater, especially as it get bigger and more aggressive?

Definitely. I think the CAE needs to be rehomed.

If you're insistent on having a small algae eater in the tank, I recommend otocinclus. I've got a group of 4 who I move from tank to tank keeping my tanks algae-free.

Otto's can be finicky lil fellas. I've had them on two occasions and i havnt been able to keep them longer than 6 months. I don't know why. My water is fine whenever i've checked it. They just need perfect conditions i find, and somewhere along my routines i'm not doing something right to keep it perfect.

When they do thrive there such an asset to have against algae though.

EDIT: If your able to have oto's in your tank as an algae crew member then your also able to have Japonica/Amano shrimp. I find these to be equally good at algae eating and i find them to be very hardy. I've only ever killed 10 and i've had hundreds. I squished one during maintenance and my dempsey ate the other 9 :p So i've only lost 1 from a mistake i've made (that i know of)

I've kept CAE's before and have had no problems. But just to be careful, I've decided to keep her with the rainbow shark in the 29 gallon. By the way, I still need help with what type of fish are actually compatible with the rainbow shark.

And as for ottos, I have one in my 10 gallon with my betta and he really does nothing to keep down the algae lol. But they're still great little fish.

I find Otos work better in groups. If you introduced some friends, he'd probably become more comfortable coming out to work on your algae.

Robusty, boisterous verging on fiesty fish of a similar adult size that are happy at 22-26C!

You may well need to consider a bigger tank for it too, something around 250 litres (a 4-footer with decent depth and height) ;)
