I got 3 chain loaches today, I was looking to get 6 but the store only had 3 so I'll get another 3 when more arrive. They are currently schooling with my danios! Cute little things.

Also called Dwarf Loach, Right? I love those guys. I saw some at a local shop. They were like $10 each. Seemed steep to me. Have you kept them before?

Yes, dwarf loach - and yes they are pricey. This is my first time keeping them, I've been researching them for a couple of weeks. I wanted a small loach species and these guys only get about 2.5" from what I've read.

Are they Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki? They are sort of hard to find around here. One store had some for $9.99 and a store in Toronto has some for $12.99. A couple of my friends went down to the Ohio Cichlid Extravaganza and he said he picked some up there. I don't know what he paid. He is a loach nut!

Great, now you're making me want some..... :fish: Which tank are you putting them in, your Dwarf Cichlid or one of the communities?

Yep! This was the first I'd seen them here, I was at the LFS getting CO2 supplies and a new light for the tank when I spotted them. I paid $45 for 3. I was planning to mail order them, and still may need to mail order some if they don't get more soon. I don't want to leave these guys in just a group of 3, though right now they don't seem to mind - they've been schooling with my danios since about an hour after I put them in the tank.

I guess I'm spoiled. I could always find a certain fish somewhere in town here. I can't imagine having to have something shipped to me.

Creeker - we have big chain fish stores and one mom n pop fish store. The chains only have the very common fish, the mom n pop store has the better selection and is where I got the chain loaches. I also got my clown plecos there. I've had to mail order my apistos, my blue platys, my amano shrimp, my cherry shrimp, my orange halo shrimp, and my assassin snails. - oh and almost all of my plants have been mail order.

Yeah, we have numerous stores like these.....

Just ordered 6 more, they'll be here Wednesday! These guys are cute and entertaining. The perfect final addition to my 75g dwarf cichlid tank. The cichlids ignore them.

They are about £10 each here in the UK if you can find them that is, I've had my 5 for about 10 or 12 years, great little fish
I have been told that they are now extinct in the wild as their natural habitat has been destroyed by daming of the rivers.
The ones in the shops are bred in captivity.

Get on well with clown loach too :good:

yay, i love chain loaches i have 3, i've had them for about a year and they chase every thing in my tank like an excited pack of puppies, they even chase my hands when im cleaning the tank. love em to bits :)

tmh- my good friend Rachel in PA can ship you Y. cruciatus $4 (dwarf hovering zebra loach) or Y. sidthimunki $9 (sids, dwarf chain loach). The cruciatus are even smaller than the sids. I was at her place last week picking up roseline barbs, panda and similis cory, CPDs, rummy nose tetras ( the pretty belheri strain). I also grabbed a couple of the Poret foam sponge fiilters to try.

She is a super shipper, has excellent quality, healthy fish which she always Qs before selling. She is also an invert expert and stocks a variety of snails, shrimp and little clawed things too.

If you want to contact her shoot me a site PM and I will give you her email addy.
