I have a Clear Seal B shaped aquarium which has no lights, Clear Seal don't do the lights and brackets as a spare and I ahve beento all the LFS's in the area to no avail. The only option seems to be the hagen lamps but these are only available mail order and cost just under £100 including tubes.

I have found at our local electrical distributor a 36W CFL floodlight which is the equivelent of a 300W halogen light. The tube is a daylight tube.
I was thinking of getting a couple of these and mounting them over the aquarium. They only cost £21 each, what do other people think?

The tank is 2' deep and is heavily planted, maybe I will look at just one of the lights mounted a bit higher. The main reason I likethem is because being for outdoor use they are waterproof.

so are aquarium applications, which can be found cheaper theyre all IP65-67

Hmmm, I will have to rethink, all the lighting gear I have seen in the aquarium shops seem expensive, at around £17 for the ballast, and anything between £10 and 20 for the T5 tubes. Being an open top tank will mean making reflectors etc.

I will do so more digging about, thanks for the input

you can get T5 tubes for £3 from lamp specs, and why do you want T5? unless you want plants?

Great, I will google lamp specs and have a look at them, I wanted T5's because the tank is heavily planted with only a few fish in at the moment.
