the average growth rate for large central american cichlids on a good diet is 1 inch per month till they hit 6 inches Midas do get quite large males can hit the 16 inch mark. and are hyper territorial and WILL kill anything that comes into their territory and thats not just when breeding that is all of the time, I have a 7.5 inch wild caught male in one of my tanks, and he is always flaring at me even when I am in a different room looking at him, the min for 1 is 75 gallons it is best to put pvc over the heater cause they have a tendency to break them, and it is also best that if there are large rocks or flower pots make sure that there is something under them so that they don't go smashing though the bottom cause they will also clear the gravel to how ever they feel.
oh and ron just hold on to that thought if I ever get off of my butt and find a F0 female I am going to be breeding both colored midas and barred midas, so it is just a matter of time.
