Ceramic Rings

is there any real point?
i have like 2 layers of ceramics in my 4 layer filter
it seems kinda useless to me beside the point of havin some bacteria for the fishes
do i really need like 2 layers?
i just want to stuff my filter up with white filter floss

That's the nice thing about canisters, which it sounds like you have. Customizing media like that is fine if you want better mechanical filtration, and already have plenty of bio filtration. Only problem I can see is more frequent filter maintenance, as the filter will trap more debris.
