Plants and snails have a habit of blocking the bubble flow on my Nutrafin ladder, and occasionally bubbles will collect apparently of their own accord. If I notice this then I can sort the issue out (and/or clean the ladder) but I would rather avoid this long term as once or twice it has been a good day (e.g. go to work, come back, see the bubbles being blocked and the CO2 level is down, no pearling etc) before I notice the problem.
I'm wondering if a ceramic diffuser would remove the likelihood of this happening? Are there ones that would work OK (and are cheap!) with the Nutrafin kit and are they likely to give a good diffusion rate in comparison with the ladder? I am guessing that raising/lowering the height of the diffuser in the water will allow more/less CO2 to enter the water and hence give a vague amount of control over the CO2 level? The Nutrafin kit lets you move the bubble entry point onto the ladder to achieve the same effect....I've also seen the spiral diffusers which are said to work well with home made kits, are these as good of an option?
