currently in my juwel rio 125 i have:

3 cory cats
1 rubbernose plec
1 albino rainbow shark (totally non aggressive)
8 cardinal tetras
5 rummynose tetras
5 harlequin rasboras

im looking for 1 or 2 centrepiece fish.

Im thinking wither 2 blue rams or maybe 2 angelfish? ive had 2 blue rams before and they both died within 1 month so im a little apprehensive about buying them

ive really liked angelfish and they seem nice to have, and ive heard that if they grow up alongside smaller fish then they wont eat them??

thanks

Will

Hopefully an expert will come along soon, but, honestly, I've heard angelfish described generally as pure evil where smaller fish are concerned.
Of course, fish being individuals, some'll be worse than others.
But, speaking as an absolute non-expert who has no angels herself, going by what I've heard, your pretty little tetras and Harleys will eventually be considered snack food, probably one bit at a time, by any angels you have in with them.

depends on the size of the angels as well , i have 3 about 3 inch from fin to fin angels in my tank along with platy which are not that big and a kissing gourami which is tiny and it's never bothered them.

They have decent personaility too , mine will follow me aroound the tank . The get on well with each other too the 3 just stick around together:)

My rams don't seem quite as responsive to me but they still look nice and are peacefull:)

Hi Will, I also have a very placid albino rainbow shark, i love him sooo much, what a face!

I have also had rams, gorgeous as they are, they are so weak. I have found gold angels to be very hardy. However, they also attacked my gold neons, even the small angelfish, so probably not a brilliant idea to have those.

Firstly, could I suggest you add 2-3 more cories into the mix, they really do thrive in their bigger groups and it wouldn't cause too much on the bioload.

Back to the original question! A centrepiece fish... yes I agree with Jimmy that a Pearl Gourami is a beautiful fish, but I have found them to be quite weak myself. My water stats are good, so I don't think that's the problem, gourami in general are quite hard to keep, they are quite weak fish and prone to fail and so my suggestion for your tank would be a small group of Congo Tetra (2 females, 1 male), which are very peaceful, very beautiful and quite large, they will not bother your smaller fish and they won't break the bank either.

well i took the risk and i bought 2 small angels (one black and one zebra), my cardinals, harlequins and rummynose are all bigger then the angels so hopefully i wont have any troubles :)

i also have lots of plant cover so there if refuge for the fish
