Cause Of Death ?

I would dilute the salt down as plecs don't tolerate it towell.

Ask for pimafix at the lfs its a med.

I rang Waterlife yesterday to see if it was advisable to continue to medicate with Myaxzin beyond 5 days; based on that my fish were still dying.

After a 10 min chat with a very helpful guy, he believed that there was something else going on.
We discussed feeding, water changes, new fish etc. He the described a behaviour that i assumed that was normal, ie fish "flicking off of the gravel". Based on this, he believed that i have "flukes", and that the cotton wool was a secondary infection.

So i'm going to medicate with sterazin once current treatment is over and filtered out the Myaxzin.

So fingers crossed.

A HUGE thanks to Knox213 and Wilder for your help (i'll put a good word in with Santa!!! lol)

Need to look at your water stats as flicking can be caused by bad water quality.Sometimes fish can flick and rub with columnaris aswell.

Signs of flukes are.
Opaque body with excess mucas.
Inflamed gills or pale gills with excess mucas.
Flicking and rubbing.
Darting, or erratic swimming.
Laboured breathing or gasping at surface of tank.
Fish will swim in a jerky movement.
Sores or red pin prick marks on fish.
Spittig food out.
Weightloss.

Based on what you have just posted and this guys info, it looks like that I'v had these flukes for a period of time.

Have lost a few guppys to weight loss and opaque bodies, but just guessed that they were weak due to inbreeding.

I think i need to familiarise myself with the common illnesses and their symptoms. I know im a newbie, but ignorance is not an excuse!

Thanks again for your help :good:

Ok.
Let me know how you get on with sterazin by waterlife if you don't mind.]
Good luck.
Merry christmas.

Hi

Currently, on the 4th day of using Sterazin (dose on alternate days).

Only lost 1 further fish but that was during the period before I could start the sterazin treatment.

There appears to be no signs of imminent dead!!

Some of the fish are still "scrapping" the gravel, but not as often.

Will keep you updated.

Happy New Year

Chris :good: :-

Thanks for the update.
Good Luck.

Medication complete, with no further losses!!

A HUGE thanks to Wilder and Knox213 for your help :good:

I hope i can return the favour one day.

Meds used were Myaxazin for Cotton Wool mouth, and Sterazin for the flukes. Both products by Waterlife. I would definatley use them again. Thanks for recommending them Wilder.

The problem with flukes is you have to keep retreating to kill the young as they hatch. As some flukes are egg layers.
I would wait another 10 days and retreat, just to make sure you have killed them off.
