Well I was downstairs this morning watching my community tank while having a cuppa, when I noticed a few tiny things darting arround!! Looked closer and I seen about 6 - 8 fry, and I honestly have no idea what fish they are from haha!

Question: will it do the fry any damage netting them and putting them into a breeding net/tub? As I would like to keep some, and I hear the mommys / other fish will eat fry?

I do have quite a few plants in the tank mind...?

Thanks :good:

Livebearer fry can be transferred to other tanks with no ill effects..... just make sure that the water you're transferring to is of the same quality as the water you remove them from and the temperature must also be the same (or slightly warmer), but definitely not a milli Celcius colder.

Yes, the parents and other fish will eat the fry if they can get hold of them.... I just do not (personally) like the idea of putting 'em in a breeding trap or small container....

I'm thinking the same... I think I will just leave them and see how they get on. I swear I seen about 10+ early hours of this morning, but now I can only find 2... maybe they have been eat or hiding somwhere!

I wasn't going to move them into another tank I was just going to move them into a breeding trap till they got big enough to not be eat... but i'll just let nature take its call I think :)

Thankyou buddy! ^_^

What other fish are u keeping with them?

If it's just guppies your get some survive this is how i rear mine.

Guppy and Molly in the tank... i think the fry are from the molly, never noticed it buy one has a huge belly, almost square shape... nothing like the other mollys bellys.

i always have loads of guppie fry in my tank a certain amount
make it to be adults. If your tank is well planted they will be fine.
they are quit fast and hide away well.you may only stress them
causing them to die trying to catch them

Chances are good that you will have survivors if all you have is guppies and mollies, especially if the fry are mollies. I have my molly fry survive by throwing the female into a tank and just waiting for her to drop. Many of the fry survive when I do that, even when there is very little cover in the tank. The guppy tank also has lots of survivors from each drop with no intervention on my part.
