How does everyone catch their fish to move them? Im going to have to move some of mine soon. I moved about 7 a couple days ago and it was a task. Now I have to catch smaller, quicker ones. I dont want to have to mess up my whole tank, so what are your techniques? Thanks

I usually take out what decorations that I can... then my method is sneak and swoop with the net.

BTW: Your signature is huge! Take a look at the signature guidelines posted at the top of this section. :good:

One big net, one little net. Take out some decorations, lower the water level. Just hold the big net still in the water and chase them into it with the little one.

iv had a good bit of luck with using a tupperware pitcher. its basically a thin bucket. you can set it in there nice and easy and chase the fish in (maybe put some java moss or something in the back so they see swimming in it as a place to hide) or if the fish are near the surface you can dip it in quickly and create an inward rush of water pulling the fish along with it. i like the big net idea too. other methods iv heard but never tried include putting some type of tubing in the bottom and waiting for the fish to swim in to hide, then just block of the ends and scoop them up :P

the way ive learned to do it by trial and error is swooping the net slowly behind them as they move. it doesnt take much to make a tetra quickly flee to the other side of the tank. dont try to catch them but just make gentle slow motions towards them and after a few minutes of this...they either except, and or, get tired; therefor giving up for you to net them.

just a technique to try- hope it works well for you, moves suck!!

What I found works is the big net - little net trick but a bit modified. Use the little net to chase the fish into a corner. Slide the big net in underneath it so you don't spook it too much. Wedge the big net into the corner so the fish can't swim past it. Swoop it upwards so the edges are out of the water. Catch the fish out of the big net with the little net.

oh dear, this is a problem i had last week, my osar had grown a lot more than i thought , and i needed to catch him to move him as he was fighting with the other, try as i might i could not get him, lol, i had to try the net i used when i first put him in the tank ((( waaayy tooo small))) then i tried a tupperware box, then i was going to use a tea towel as a hammock.....all this while being terrified he was going to eat me!!
anyway i didnt catch him :( i gave him a harsh mouthful on what a sod i thought he was and took out his tank mates instead-well he has to know who`s boss) anyway hes currently life a life of luxury ,sure i have seen him grinning a few times, but its probably just wind!!

lol shelagh xxxxxx
