Your Elliotti's mum & dad (or grandparent not sure which you have lol) used to live with 6 texas carpintis. They are a wonderful fish, BUT! singles are an absolute nightmare to be honest. I had a group of 6 which have been wiped out 1 by 1 with lymphocyctis (uncurable virus), large tank and a group to spread the aggression works and looks fantastic. For a single you want to add it last to the tank and as small as possible so it grows up with the rest. Chances are once it gets around 4-6" it can turn increadibly nasty and kill other fish over night, once they start they are relentless in their attack. Tank mates need to be a strong willed fish like the Elliotti that will flare and stand its ground without engaging in a fight. My single texas now lives with a bolshy red spot severum, a jack dempsey and a red tailed black shark. The rtbs is a great tank mate as it will not tolerate any nonsense from the texas

Haha! I'd never put mine in with an Ellotti. I thought they were meant to be milder than FM's?

I guess it depends on the individual fish again, but IMO Texas should always be treated as potentially aggressive, then you can't go wrong :good:

My ellioti is fully grown and very much the boss. I have the option to house the carpintis in the 4ft tank on his own with possibly a few dithers and some catfish or plecs.

I saw the bigger one and was blown away by him tbh, hence all the questions. But then again I like the idea of a juvenile so I can watch him grow. But then the bigger one has instant effect... Hmmm

Also the bigger one looked mean and was shifting an immense amount of gravel with ever mouth full. Haha.

My female that i grew up from 0.5" to 8" was a complete wimp, she lived with Gold, Green, Red Spotted and Rotkeil Severums, Salvini, pink Convict (i still have her lol) Gibbi Plec with Tiger Barbs as dithers in my 6ftx2ftx2ft, never any problems.

She was horny all the time tho, always in those amazing breeding colours of black and white.

I tried breeding her with a male A grade ZZ Red Dragon Flowerhorn and male blood parrots, never got any fry tho, the males where probably sterile.

In all honesty over 15 years of fish keeping, i have never seen or owned a nasty Carpintis.

Thanks for the info HGS. The big one i saw had brilliant colouration and looked mean :hey:
