Carbon Sponge?

do i need this in my internal juwel filter ive seen a few posts saying you dont need it

is it doing any good or harm?

You dont need the black carbon sponge, its pretty useless after a few days anyway, you only need to run carbon in the filter to remove medication (if you have to some). Use another blue sponge instead.

i ordered a orniment for my tank off ebay and it was packed with bits of foam the same size as the blue foam in the filter just thiner could i wash it and use that?

also how high should the water level it the tank be?

i fill it up to the lid so you cant see the water line

i wouldn,t use it may leak chemicals into your water

if its a juwel tank they have a red waterline near the filter you shouldnt fill it higher than the red line

If its foam and not sponge, it will eventually rot, I would remove it to be on the safe side. You can get cheap sponges from most LFS, it doesnt have to be a juwel one.

If you dont have a red line, just fill it as you have been, just above the glass so you cant see the water line.

yeah ive taken it out


its made my filter better taking out the carbon and foam
