Carbon Pads

I would remove them (as long as they make up no more than a third of the total media) and replace them with something else; sponge is cheapest and easiest.
 
My tank cycle was taking ages (4 weeks) with no change until I removed the carbon pads from my internal interpet PF3 filter and replaced them with a plain pad the ammonia has dropped from 3.0 too 0 & the Nitrite from 3.3 to 0 today & the Nitrate is dropping from 90 to 40 today, I'm dosing with 2ml ammonia every day just to feed the bacteria, there will be 25% water change tomorrow.
I am using the Nutrafin test kits but as soon as they are used up I will change to the API master only because the test range is larger and more accurate.
