Carbon Filter

a week ago i removed the carbon section from my filter in order to use some meds, time has come now to put a new carbon section back in. i just want confirmation that i will be doin it correct..... the carbon needs to be rinsed first. so if i do a water change, do i use the water ive taken out to rinse it? that way it can go straight back in filter. planning on doing it tomorrow, so any fast direction appricated

just wash the carbon in tap water until it runs clear the re install into the filter.
