Hi, just wanted to ask about carbon filter pads. How often do you have to change them, and if you didnt want to change them, could you leave them in, and use them as a normal filter pad???

Thanks alot, Mikey

Do a recent thread search for carbon filters. There was a massive discussion recently.

It is 'recommended' to change them every other week I think. If your tank is planted, don't bother with them!

Do NOT leave them in 'to act as a normal filter pad' - any thing they accumulate will actually leech back into your tank once used for too long.

Righty oh, i wont bother using it then. Thanks alot

Carbon filters do have their uses, so don't dismiss them out of hand.

Use them when needed to remove traces of meds after a course of medications. Can also be used to remove discolouration etc.

I did a recent poll on the use of carbon...

If you have not got a planted tank, people were 50-50 on the continual use of carbon filters.
