Hello all. Well were do I start really
I added 6 fish (included 3 clown loaches) to my cycled 240 litre tank which unfortuately caused a mini cycle. Managed to stabailise the tank (took a week) but a couple of days later I noticed 2 clowns had a few spots on them so out of caution I treat them with Interpet no6.
Now after 2 courses of the Interpet treatment and 3 weeks the 2 clowns are more covered than ever. They are fairly active and eating well but flicking alot. I have put the carbon back in my filter and am just wondering what to try next? I have raised the temp to 30C. I'm going to the LFS tomorrow to buy a different brand of meds, but dont know what else to try?! Is King British ws3 any good or Protozin? My platys and 2 tetra have suddenly developed spots today so I know this is getting serious and I'm very worried. Please help my fish
Amonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 5ppm
PH 7
240l
Fluval 305 external filter
Heavily planted
Thanks so much :good:

Juliet

Out of the 3 treatment you listed, WS3 is by far the most effective, (IMO and is what i used to treat my clowns a few months back)
As well as this you can also add a small dose of freshwater tonic salt.

(remember to only use half a dose of WS3 as the clowns are quite sensitive to this)

remove the carbon and up the temp to 80 to 81 for a week treat with ws3 and that should sort it

Much obliged, will treat with a half dose of wsm tomorrow. Will this be ok with cory's in the tank? I dont have any extra airation. Do I need to buy a pump etc?
Thanks :)

hi STORM8104

some treatments u have to half dose on corydoras and as biff said turn ure temp up to about 80 it speeds things up the best time to treat is when the white spot has fallen of the fish other wise you just wast your meds :good:

Hiya, thanks for replying.

I actually turned the temp up when I treat with Interpet and I monitored the clowns, I didnt notice any spots drop off at all to be honest, they just seemed to increase but I will watch for them dropping off again, better luck this time...I hope!

Juliet.

The treatment you got is pretty good. I use rid ick + for three consecutive days then do a 10 to 15% water change every other day while still medicating. Be sure to never put the full dose back into the water, just the amount you took out.

I have never lost a fish to ick since I started using rid ick +

Some people use salt but the corys and loaches can’t handle it. They are scaleless and sensitive.

Be sure to take the carbon out as this will remove the medication.

The tricky thing with ick and what you need to know if you will see the ick clear up and drop off the fish. Well the ick goes into the gravel and multiplies therefore, medication should still be used after the ick is gone.

At work i am currently treating 10 pictus and about 20 clowns with 1/4 dose of tonic salt and 1/2 a dose of WS3 and it is quickly clearing up and we haven't had any casualties yet so i would say that in the right conditions it does help.

haha i get my ich medication from wilkinsons :D

it actually works quite well tho lol

i had a bad case of it in my community tank and the ich semmed to have dissapeared within 5 days, but i still kept on using after this to just make sure there arent any remnants left in the tank

was only £2.00 aswell :hyper:

Ive never heard of Freshwater tonic salt before. Probably a daft question but is it similar to aquarium salt or is it a specialist tonic?

Clowns still look terrible, a few spots have dropped off the tetras so I hope the same happens to the clowns before they flick themselves raw

Have upped temp, removed carbon and given half dose of WSM3 so fingers crossed.
Thanks everyone,

Juliet.
