Cant Believe My Lfs

Yesterday I went shopping, and dropped into my LFS that happens to have 1 of these LFS in every single shopping centre you go into. They are a massive franchise, overly priced, sell puppies, kittens, birds etc.

I went to look at the fish, and they had about 10 tropical tanks. In 7 of those tanks, there were dead fish.

Then to top it off, a family come in and buy a betta, then the mum says "we also have a tropical tank, I want to put some more fish in it, are guppies ok" and the girl said "sure" and the mum says "I have a red tail shark and a silver shark" and the girl said "yes the guppies will be fine".

I was looking at the mum and giving her the "shaking my head no no no look" but she didnt notice me.

I then waited out the front of the shop but they didnt come out for ages so I left.

But I was going to tell her those guppies would be terrorised in a matter of minutes.

I just cant believe they have these girls working for them that no jack s*** about fish, animals or anything. And I was also shocked that they were selling fish with dead fish in the tank and that they had not cleaned them out!

Ok vent over, I just needed to get it out!

Well unfortunately things like that can happen. However thank goodness for places like FishForums.net that help in preventing things like this happening to everybody.

Well in my country. Lebanon, i use to get fish from a gr8 Lfsthe fish dont live for long time then they r dead. I bought from him 2 angels 2 weeks they r dead and he is expensive on nothing. I bought now from a new Lfs on other location as u r saying dead fish in the tanks, they r gr8 and healthy and the r living happy. It doesnt depend.

Yes Paul, I only buy from one certain LFS, because I find them extremly knowledgable, clean tanks, never seen a dead fish, and none of my fish have died from them.

This place though, I know now that I would never ever buy a fish from them. But they have one in every single shopping mall, so people use it as a convenience.

It all depends, and you have to find the right one that you are happy with.

hey Rhiannon name and shame was it Fish & Feather... there tanks can be really bad especially their livebearer tanks. Obviously platies, mollies and swords don't deserve a decent home before being sold they think.

No it wasnt it was Eastland Pets Paradise.

But trust me mate, F & F is one place we DO NOT go to anymore. All of our fish died from there. I wont even walk into that place anymore.

Gosh I thought it was just me and my husband who thought F&F were crap, but obviously it has a bit of a reputation for itself hey.

Ahhh pets paradise in eastland...I went there about 2 days after they moved and saved a peacock cichlid from a tank of 30 gourami's...they have gone downhill Fast.

F & F seems to jump from good to bad depending who is working...but they have gotten worse
