whats your opinion? eheim seems to be the better filter but its alot more expensive. which is better for the price? i just bought a fluval 305 on ebay for a 55 gallon tank (usg) did i make the right choice or should i have sprung the extra cash for the eheim? what are your opinions on different cannister filters? listening to all ideas. thanks

Fluvals are meant to be bad, leaking etc. Eheims are great.

Will be how most peoples opinions are basically.

while this is up what do you all think of the marineland hot magnum for 55 gal.thats what i have.

I was happy with my Fluval 204 in my 125 l./33 US gal. No leaks, quiet, cheap.

However I will be using an Eheim (2028) next time around. They are regarded as the industry standard. The Eccos are good value. The Classics are well respected and the Pros are the best but most expensive.

yes i would have loved the eheim 2026 which i was considering strongly, but it was about 100-150 dollars more. decided to take a chance on the fluval. wish me luck i guess. 3 days- no problems!!!!!! wooohoooo. ;) ty for yer opinions. keep em comin. im still curious about what others have to say

I've got a Fluval 205 on my 29gal that's been running like a dream for about 8 months, no leaks, easy clean. I also have a 405 on my 75gal along w/an AC70, and love that one as well, no leaks quiet operation, and great water flow. I haven't used eheim so I can't compare, but I'll probably stick w/Fluval.

I have used a Fluval, it lasted four/five years with no problems, I also have an Eheim thermo filter, it worked non-stop for seven years, then sat in a damp shed for four years and is working again as well as when I first got it, I have another Eheim filtering a goldfish tank in the garden for five years, its out in all weather, its got a makeshift cover and has had no problems. I would always recommend Eheim they are worth the money in the long run, but having said that you should get years out of the Fluval.

I have a eheim I snapped a thingy off the motor which keeps the lid closed on the motor but nothing wrong happend and it appears to be running perfect....$160 for the Eheim however it appears to be worth it

I haven't tried an eheim but, Other than my fluval 304 being hard to restart sometimes it works great, no other complaints 3 years strong. I will be trying an eheim on my next tank though just because I like to experiment.

I have an Ehiem 2224 and its been great for 2 years plus, I also have a superfish external filter that is ok, not as easy to clean and maintain as the ehiem but over half the price.

I have just purchased a TetraTec Ex1200, have not put it in tank yet, so will see what it is like, also a lot cheaper than ehiem pro.

I've only just started using an old fluval 303. It was free, it is very quiet, the water running back into the tank makes more noise. It does leak a little bit, but not to the point that it causees a problem :) Have never had an eheim.
