I went to a few LFSs yesterday, simply because one of them was a 1/2 hour drive and there were 3 along the way. I was REALLY good, I could have bought 10 fish....but I only bought two. Though I didn't go to buy fish, or supplies or anything really. I just wanted to check out a newish LFS (and they just happened to have some nice swordies and platies)....:p And some really cool driftwood which would look really good in my tank, but I didn't get it as I need an excuse to go back there later this week to get it "I have to have it" kind of trip.

My fave LFS gets their fish in on a Friday meaning I always go there on Saturdays. Its like a religion with me. I don't want someone else getting a fish that was meant for me  If you know what I mean.

I do all the time but that is because the only lfs that I will go to won't sell my any other fish than new world cichlids cause the owner knows me well enough to know what will happen to any other fish.

i have to at least look. im still waiting for the zebra plec to show up and be mislabeled so i can buy it for 10$

A better question could be.... Can you pass by a LFS without having to take a look around??? :D

I usually like looking at fish I "migh" buy, but I also like watching other pets (I've always loved dogs over fish btw) )

Can you go to the LFs without buying fish?
I can because I go often for supplies and whatnot. I haven't even been to the lfs in three weeks. I went in tonight and the shop owner had thought I'd found a new store

As for fish, I sometimes see some that I would love to have. But,of course, they won't go with any of my current set-ups,and at this point in time I don't want a new tank, and I already have my 'tank future' planned so..I have to resist. I haven't bought a new fish in a long time, at least six months (not counting bettas).

shuhu~ I hardly ever, ever even browse the fish section.

Most of my tanks are completely stocked now, and I'm looking for specific things for the ones that aren't, so it's pretty easy for me to avoid buying fish lately. I always have to browse, though. Gotta say hi to my old friends who have been there forever waiting for an owner (like the pair of large oscars) ;)
I went today and they had in a beautiful 6" white midas, probably previously owned and given to them because he killed everything in his tank ( :p ). I would have definitely bought that guy if I had room, but I'm sure someone else will get him. It's sad when you get to the point where you want every single member of a species you favor that you see. Midas, oscars, and bettas are like cute little kittens to me -- I have yet to see one I didn't think was adorable :p

It depends which one.

I use one of three shops for supplies as these are all very close to home, but another, a little further away to buy fish. I only ever buy fish that one place these days, so if I make the effort to go that little bit further afield, I WILL come back with something.

I go and browse, see if there's any new driftwood or plants (usually there aren't) and I end up not buying anything. I feel bad, but I guess I'm just not a consumer. :/

I used to buy fish almost everytime i went to my lfs, but now all my tanks are fully stocked and i promised myself i wouldn't buy anmore fish until i got my new tank a couple of months ago...well apart from 2 amoured shrimp and a couple of guppys i've stuck to that promise, but usualy in the past when i completely stocked a tank i just bought a new or larger tank, there's only 1 fish i'd actualy buy if i saw the right one at the mo and that is a betta as i've been looking for the right one now for months...
But yeah i always take a look at the fish in stock at my lfs, its just to hard to resist :p

I dont neccessarily go too buy something. But i do spend along time starring and pricing items! :p

I can never tell. Sometimes I will go in saying, "If I find anything, I will get it." And then not find anything I have to have. But that is rare. :D

Usually it is more like "I am just going for Amquel. Just Amquel, NO FISH" and I come out with Amquel...and fish, of course.

When I bought my two used 55g tanks the dude told me he always goes to a small town about an hour away where the lady really knows her fish. I have been avoiding going (lucky for me it isn't close) but sometimes it calls to me, especially when the stpres around here do something that annoys me.

Right now I am looking for 3-line cories. If the local shops don't get any soon I may have to go...for Amquel, of course.

I rarely get any fish I haven't planned to get. Mostly I just go to the LFS to have a look around and plan future tanks. It's more likely that I'll walk home with a plant or some jar of food. I want to plan fish purchases beforehand, so that I can be sure the tank fits them.

However, when I stock my tanks I leave a little bit of room in them, so that if I ever happen to find a rare fish that would fit in, I can buy it without worrying about overstocking. :)
