Hi ,i`ve just got a n 110l tank and at the moment it`s still cycling with the following fish in,6 albino corries,6 bronze corries,4 glowlight tetra ,2 pitbull plecos ,3 armano shrimp, when it`s cycled could i also add 6 tiger barbs?

I'm a big fan of tiger barbs, but do think carefully. 110l is at the very small end of the acceptable tank size and they do better in numbers larger than six really. They're also a surprisingly chunky fish once their fully grown.

I think you'd be better off getting more glowlights. They're one of those fish that just gets better and better the more you have.

Thanks Fluttermoth,i just saw them in shop and fell in love ,lol,Really looking for an extra fish for the middle to top layer besides glowlight, slightly bigger as most of my fish are bottom dwellers and my tank will seen empty.

Just for interest how many glowlight tetra could i add with all my existing fish?

What about these?

Five banded barbs

Much less aggressive. L_Plates has them. Check out that thread for more information on them as well. :good:

Hi ,would these be too much with my other fish [Hi ,i`ve just got a n 110l tank and at the moment it`s still cycling with the following fish in,6 albino corries,6 bronze corries,4 glowlight tetra ,2 pitbull plecos ,3 armano shrimp, when it`s cycled could i also add 6 tiger barbs?]
Didn`t realise that tiger barbs were aggresive.

It probably would put you over the top for now. I've heard folks with more "established" tanks can go over the 1 inch per US gallon rule, but I'm not going to recommend it. I'm still a newbie myself, but like you, I fell in love with tiger barbs. Someone else mentioned the five banded barbs to me, and thought I would pass that information along. It may not help you for some time, or at all. Perhaps someone else interested in tigers will happen through the thread, and it will help them.

I'm not suggesting that you get five banded barbs, but I am offering that they are a less aggressive alternative. (Also, I believe they are less bulky than tigers. Tigers grow up to 3 inches, and I believe the five banded only get to 2 inches on average, although some do grow bigger from what I've read.)

Thanks will keep them in mind ,haven`t seen those in lfs though ,we`re very limited over here :)

Same here. The closest place that has them around me is 2 hours away. I'm still trying to decide if it is worth it for me or not.

Tigers would be alright if you were to get 10 or more; they're fine in larger groups, it would just be all your available space taken up with them really.

I've got 10 in a 100l with five zebra loach and a clown plec and they are lovely fish; maybe not for a general community, that's all, due to the numbers as much as anything.

Yeah. It is high. But, if I am going to have fish for 3-5 years (hopefully) I want them to be the right ones, and if it costs me a little more in initial investment, but is more what I am looking for, than the extra few bucks is actually work it in the long run. I'd just need to combine that drive with some other business... primarily, they have some of the best food around in that area! I may also be buying some furniture in that area as well, and the Amish don't deliver (at least not two hours away by car!).

If I combine a trip with those three pieces, the drive might not be outrageous for 15 five banded barbs. :good: I just have to ensure that they are the variety that I want. I'm bantering back and forth with myself. According to L_Plates they stay much lower in the tank than tigers, so that is something that I am going to have to weigh in making my decision.

Fbb are great fish looks wise and temprement. But as said they do seem to hang lower around the wood and plants in the water than tigers. But i have other midwater fish so im ok with that.

They are though over time getting more aventurous.
