Got these little guys at the pet LFS yesterday and it said on the tank simply "rainbows". The girl working said they were a type of dwarf but that's all she knew. Sorry if a little blurry, they don't like to pose. One is the kind in all three pics but the other 2 don't have the orange edging to the fins but blue.

Dwarf Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia praecox), I believe.

why take out the bamboo? i have some in my tank. its supposed to be like a bamboo like plant

Bamboo is usually okay.

And yeah, those are praecox rainbows. The males have red on the fins and the females have orange (but sometimes it looks like red). IME the males get larger, too. :)

its just a pice of bamboo, it adds a little O2. i use it in betta tanks sometimes.

There were no leaves just a piece of stalk when i put it in there 3 months ago. It grows slow and does collect a little algae but is doing well enough to have new growth and 2 or 3 inch roots.

On the fish, 2 of them have almost no color in their fins. Is this just because they are young? They're only about an inch long.

Just thought I'd say those are some gorgeous fish you've got. :good:

they look like a dwarf neon rainbow to me, as for the EXACT species, no clue sorry.
