I am trying to seperate my male and female guppies and platys into seperate tanks to stop breeding, am having a hard time telling sex. yellow male seems to be fathering most as each mommy has about 1/2 yellow babies, can any of the yellow offspring be female ? just figured being so colorfull, they were all male, are they ? ty for any input. carol

I'm only familiar with guppies, and there can indeed be yellow females. They're called blondes, and I have two who are now mature. The best way to tell sex is by looking at the anal fin. If it's kind of a slightly rounded triangle, it's a female. The male's is more pointed, and that will later become the gonopodium.

The anal fin on a female guppy is triangular, not round like a platy. But in contrast to a male's pointy fin, that diagram helps.
