Can These Survive

The only reason i ask, is because i seem to have lost one of my amano shrimp.

I have searched the whole tank and no where to be seen. I thought maybe it had escaped or died. Do amano shrimp eat other dead of their own?

more than likely they will, have you ever seen them devour a dead body? they make very light work of it on fish, sure they'd eat one of they're own.

but they're also very good hiders so don't worry too much, i rarely see all of mine at once.

Ammano shrimp are great little hiders... i have 8 or so in my tank i only see them every couple of weeks....

they may well have escaped or dies or been eaten...

Thank you for your replies.

I have found their hiding place, but can only count 5 at any one time. So im pretty sure it has disappeared.

I found all four of mine scattered around on the carpet! They turn a bright pink when they dry up, so keep an eye out, it took me months to find my last one, it was under my sofa bed. Luckily it didn't smell!

Hiya i had a root around in the tank today, took everything out to count the fish etc. And defo only 5 amano shrimp. So am looking around on the floor for the one that jumped!!LOL
Maybe my dog ate it? or the cat for that matter.

No, they can't live out of water for very long, but if it did in fact jump out of your tank it could of probably made it half way accross the room :/ . If you've ever had the "enjoyment" of trying to pick one up off of the floor you know what i mean lol.

I had an amano shrimp jump about 2-3m from the tank, even though it was covered about 98% with a condensation tray!! It didnt survive.. :( and it was full of eggs too !! Was going to be my breeding project.

As for malaysian trumpet snails, they can survive out of water for a while. I've posted them to people before, wrapped in some wet tissue.

Yeh I've had to pic one up off my carpet. Poor thing. I dropped it I think, when I was tranferring it from a bucket to the tank. They sorta flatten when out the water too making it even more difficult to pick them up.

When I first got mine they hid for months. They liked to hang out behind the filter. But now they come out all the time. Especially at feeding times and when I do awater change.

my shrimp hide behind the filter. Still havent found the missing one.
And they are shedding pretty well too. I think they have virtually doubled in size in a week.
