the filter in my tank gives out a fairly stong current, the tetra seem fine at the moment, just wondered wether a strong current bothers them??

A lot depends on the species. Some tetras come naturally from high energy environments, however, the common community tetras do not. If they are being blasted around the tank, they won't last long.

they are neons, there not being blasted around so should be ok then, thanks for help

There is no fish that can really stand being blasted by strong current. Some fish prefer current more than others. For example, bettas prefer still waters. Tetras, come from rivers, where there are currents. So they do prefer current.

The best way to tell if you have too much current is if you see your fish flat against the aquarium glass, pushed by the current, not being able to move. If you see your fish like that, they you have too strong of a current.

thanks for the info, there not even close to being stuck to the glass they swim through the current quite happily, im just a little over protective and wondered wether they should be in "still" water. thanks for the peace of mind :good:

Whilst it is true that the popular aquarium tetras come from rivers, you tend to find them close to the banks, or in the quiet creeks, not out in the current. In the wet season, they are in the almost totally still water in the flooded forrests. Some current won't do them any harm, if it looks wrong, it probably is.
