Can`t Locate Sterbais

Hi ,does anyone know where i could buy sterbai corries from,in or near to Birmingham?

I got my sterbais from pets at home (reluctantly, because I've heard lots of bad things about p@h - but none of my lfs had sterbais in)

out of interest, will lfs order stock in if it is only one or two fish? I've always felt bad asking for just 1 or two of something ordering in - do they usually have a minimum order?

I doubt they'll ever order 1 or 2 in, where I work there's generally a minimum order of 6, but we tend to order around 50 in from the supplier dependent on the species.

There's nothing wrong with pets at home, stores will vary, there are some excellent stores, it's a franchise so obviously quality will vary store to store, so don't knock them till you've tried them, I'd just like to point out, I don't work for Pets at home by the way! I work at Maidenhead aquatics.

Depends on what kind of suppliers they use. Wharf aquatics near me won't order single fish in which is a pain in the neck.

yeah pets at home didn't seem to bad, the assistant didn't know her a**e from her elbow so its a good job I already knew! My sterbais from there are fine, but I did notice them trying to sell bronze cories as pandas at a fiver a pop! They were definitely plain old bronze though! In my experience they are fine as long as you go there already clued up.

Yeah it is a bit of a pain, I've never asked because I feel cheeky! Fully stocked for the time being though so just as well really

Been watching Sterbai... their prices have gone ridiculously high! I have yet to find a real reason seeing as they are as popular as ever!!

But when i started ordering fish 2-3 years ago they retailed at £4 max and now i got 10 in because we have been begged to get them in and so we did at less mark up and they are retailing at £9 each!!

Will you buy corys at £9 each? (deal on multiples..)

Time of year effects cories hugely but corys in general seem to have had a MASSIVE price hike and not at the retailers expense!! (for a change on some retailers lol).

I do my best for customers because i understand on a basic level. What would I pay for a fish? Personally... i wouldny pay £9 for a sterbai... so i havent ordered them... if someone asked me why,... id explain but i bet loads of people leave shops all grumpy and dont think to ask who order the fish and if they could chat to them!? Not all members of staf read my mind and know what choices i make and so asking anyone other than the person who orders fish wont help you.

Anyhoo.. that said... corys are ruddy expensive at the moment! Plecs are cheaper, corys more expensive... things change... if you can... then give your suppliers a chance...

My local P@H will order fish in for me... although whether they would be the right ones or not is another matter - I'll let you know if I ever get them to do it but I have asked before, and they said they'd be fine with it. The only way you'll know is if you ring and ask

I'm not really sure of the going exhange rate but currently one of my local pet shops (the better one in the fish selection department) had two sterbia's going for $21.99 each they wheren't even full grown, so I can't understand the huge jump from the usual $15.99 mark. Makes me glad I got mine ages ago and now have a nice school of 15 that happily breed for me.

Australian dollars. What's really annoying even though my local pet shops rarely get in sterbia and when they do they put a hefty price on them, but they are reluctant to purchase my locally bred sterbia from me when my asking price is $5 ea which I always figure is a bargin. They will however purchase bristle noses off me in lots of 20.30, or 50 and then they usually only pay $2 or $2.50ea and sell them around $8-$9 ea or more depending on size.

no idea that Sterbais are so much these days, my LFS sells them for £3! i am waiting for them to get more in to add to my group of 4
